This is one for the petrol heads. Your dad will get the chance to race around his chosen racetrack in four supercars, choosing from an exciting selection of Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Aston Martins, and many more. He’ll get to drive up to 12 miles in his chosen cars, and will be presented with a photograph of him racing round the track at the end of the day. The experience includes a white-knuckle high speed passenger ride with a professional instructor.

Practical info: There is a choice of 16 locations around the UK and supercars will vary by location. All participants must hold a full driving licence and present this at the racetrack. International driving license are accepted.

Photography course for one

If your dad is planning on travelling abroad in 2018, this course could be the perfect thing to get him photography ready. The course in London runs on selected Saturdays and lasts 2 hours 30 minutes. Run by an award-winning photographer, he’ll be taught how to get the most out of his camera (whether it’s a DSLR, Bridge or Compact camera) and how to use the various features. He can then put theory into practice on the streets of London, with the instructor on hand to provide useful tips and tricks.

Practical info: The course starts at either 10am or 1pm. Your dad must bring his own camera and a notebook would also be helpful.

Travel on a steam train through the spa valley plus afternoon tea for two

Chug along the beautiful High Weald countryside in South East England, followed by afternoon tea at Mercure Tunbridge Wells Hotel. The two of you can hop on a steam train or heritage diesel train that travels between Tunbridge Wells West and Eridge. You’re welcome to hop off at any of the stops along the way for a little explore, including Groombridge, High Rocks and Royal Tunbridge Wells. Once you’re done enjoying the scenery afternoon tea awaits you, with a selection of sandwiches, scones and sweet treats.

Practical info: The experience is available seven days a week, however it can only be undertaken on Green timetabled days and not Purple, Yellow, Blue, Orange or Red. Make sure you book your afternoon tea at least four weeks in advance.

Cost: £65.00 for two people, including the steam train trip and afternoon tea for two.

Take your dad out for a day of sea fishing at Penarth in Wales. You’ll meet your skipper in the morning and he’ll give you a full briefing and show you aboard your fishing boat. Once anchored in the Bristol Channel, you’ll be given your fishing gear and you can bait up and start casting. The experience is suitable for beginners, and you’ll even be allowed to take your catch home. You’ll spend about 6 hours fishing and be supplied with tea and coffee – just don’t forget to pack some lunch!

Practical info: The experience runs on selected dates throughout the year, subject to availability. The minimum age is 14 or 16, depending on experience. All fishing equipment is included in the price.

Flying lesson for one

Your dad can act as both pilot and observer in this thrilling double pilot lesson. He’ll get the chance to take off and land in different locations, taking turns with the pilot to fly the plane. The experience involves two separate legs, and any time your dad spends behind the controls will count towards a Private Pilot’s License (if he ever has the urge to take his training further). The experience lasts approximately two hours and includes a short safety and technical briefing from a CAA experienced instructor.

Practical info: There are 11 locations to choose from across the UK, including near London, Liverpool and Edinburgh. Spectators are welcome, but adult supervision is required for under-16s on airfield premises.
